Mildred D. Grow

Mildred Delores Grow, 84, of Prosser died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 after a short illness. Mildred "Millie" Grow was born May 21st, 1929 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Albert Karl Frank and Mary Johanna (Baalhorn) Frank. She moved to Fort Collins, Colorado when her father opened an automotive shop and lived there until she was 11. Her family then moved to Boise, ID in 1940. After finishing her schooling, she married Terry Yearout and moved to Washington. They divorced in 1957, and on June 16th, 1958 she married the love of her life Norton Vernett Grow in Prosser, WA. She was very active in helping her husband Norton farm and build Rafter G Arabians into a world wide name, exporting pure bred Egyptian Arabian horses to as far away as Australia. They also raised cattle, llamas, exotic birds and numerous other animals over the years. They were known for their award winning horses and iris flower gardens. Both she and Norton held many titles in the Arabian Horse Association as well as the American Iris Society. They loved to travel and spend time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In later years mom was a partner in a grape vineyard which produced grapes for many award winning wines. She raised many varieties of flowers and enjoyed working in her huge iris garden and traveling to show them and in some cases judge the beautiful entries. Mom had a great love of animals and fed most any stray that showed up at her door step. Mom was smart, stubborn, determined and a spit-fire who lived life on her own terms, which she did right up to the end. She was a master shopper, knowing exactly where and when the sales and deals would appear. Most important to her were her family which filled her life with joy. She also enjoyed friends and good neighbors, especially when they stopped by to visit. She is survived by her children Norma Lou (Phil) Telford of Goldendale, WA; Gale (Carroll) Grow of Naches, WA; Linda (Bob) Brobst of Boise, ID and Terry T "Butch" (Nancy) Yearout of Yakima, WA , sisters in law; Fay Clark of Dallas, Or. , Phyllis Smith of Zillah WA. And Jean Hanson of Fresno CA, Daughters in law Jean Chesley Sautter and Cynthia Clapper Grow ; fourteen grandchildren, Darrel, Dacia, Kimberly, Robin, Terri, Andrea, April, Reagan, Janelle, Jerilyn, Nick, Cody, Chris, Josh ; fifteen great grandchildren Layne, Tyler S., Ryan , Allison , Tyler J., Ashlie, Jeremy, Nick, Jessica, Kyle, Zoey, Derek(DJ) and Taylor; six great, great grandchildren, Isabella, Ethan, Evan, Brooklyn and Cayden and Tucker.
