Alma Jean Stilwell

September 25, 1930 ~ May 18, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Alma Jean Stilwell (Golladay), a long-time resident of Grandview, WA, died peacefully Thursday the 18th of May in her home surrounded by her family.

Born in 1930 in Grandview, WA., to Denver and Clara Golladay.  Alma graduated from Grandview High School in 1948. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwest Nazarene College and   continued her education at Seattle Pacific University, from which she received her teaching certification. 

She taught elementary school in Seattle and Sunnyside until she met Wesley Stilwell, a farmer in Grandview, where they were married in 1961.  They lived and farmed together there and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. During their life together they adopted and raised three children.

Alma loved reading, teaching piano, and playing the piano and organ for the Grandview and Prosser Church of the Nazarene.  Alma accepted Jesus as her savior when she was 10 years old and has been a faithful follower ever since.  She has served faithfully in both the Grandview and Prosser Church of the Nazarene playing the piano, organ, and teaching Sunday School.  She loved reading and hearing about missionaries serving around the world and supported them with prayer and giving.

The family is so thankful for the loving and compassionate care she received from her family doctor, nurses, and Heartlinks Hospice.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Stilwell, her brother Jim Golladay of Kennewick, WA, her son, Eric Stilwell (Pam) of Grandview, Daughter, Sharron Gookin (Dan) of Vancouver, WA, her four grandchildren, Tiffany Stilwell, Nathan Stilwell, Duncan Gookin, Katelynn Gookin, and her great grandson, Dallas Stilwell.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Bernard Golladay and Paul Golladay, and son Monty Stilwell.

Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview, WA. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Grandview, WA. Celebration  of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Nazarene Church in Grandview, WA. Memorial gifts may be made to the Jesus Film Project, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, c/o Grandview Church of the Nazarene, 500 N. Elm St., Grandview, WA 98930.
