Gloria Robles Cantu

April 12, 1950 ~ March 23, 2016 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Gloria Cantu, a longtime Sunnyside resident passed away Wednesday, March 23th with her family by her side after a valiant fight against cancer. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Gloria during her 65 years, among them, always be kind, you’ll always find a good deal at Goodwill, and love your family. Gloria, one of seven children, was born on April 12, 1950 to Francisco and Maria Robles. Gloria moved to Sunnyside when she was very young, where she and her family worked hard as farm and field laborers. Although it was difficult work, those days gave her wonderful memories of growing up with her family. During her late teens she met the love of her life, Humberto Cantu. The two were married in 1965 and she remained faithful to him for the rest of her life. Their first child, Humberto Jr (Beto) was born in 1967, and ten years later in 1976 their second son, Jayson was born. The Cantus lived a full happy life together filled with vacations to the beach, BBQ’s, parties, laughter and lots of love. Gloria was celebrated for her loving spirit, as well as her warmth, generosity and sensitivity. A 55+ year member of St Joseph Catholic Church, she made a lifetime commitment to honor and serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gloria took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend. She enjoyed going to the movies, spending time with her son Jayson and her sisters and finding the best deals at yard sales and Goodwills. She was a superb cook and baker. Her famous sugar cookies were very popular among close family and friends. She was dedicated to working with children for over 30 years in the Sunnyside School District and for the Washington State Migrant Council.

Gloria is survived by her husband Humberto Cantu, her son Jayson Cantu (W.Filicetti), her grandchildren Makayla Cartmell and Chance Cantu, and four sisters, Dora Garza     (Ramiro Garza), Angie Suarez (Monico Suarez), Maria Riojas (Rick Riojas), and Gracie Robles (Joe Garza), as well as one brother, Abundio Robles (Rosa Robles), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Beto Cantu. Gloria is cherished and deeply missed. She lives on in the hearts of all she touched.
