Helen Patricia "Pat" Owens Obituary

Helen Patrica “Pat” Owens, 73, of Grandview, WA went to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.   She was born on July 25, 1946 in Grandview, WA the daughter of Jessie Mae (Brown) and Mitchell David Birdwell.  She received her education in Grandview, WA.   On March 1, 1975 Pat married William “Bill” C. Owens in Yakima, WA.    She spent her life dedicated to working with children.  For over 35 years she worked for school districts around Washington State.  The districts were in Republic, Glenwood, Stevenson, Wapato, and Prosser.   Pat retired from working for the school districts in 2016, but never stopped working with children. Her assigned job description was usually as a sign-language interpreter, but she always found ways to help all the children.  Pat was known for going above and beyond.  She often found children that she wanted to bring home for her to raise.  She and Bill had many conversations about this.  Let’s just say, they never ended up coming home with her.  She loved being a homemaker and in her spare time enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts, refereeing kids and just being a  Grandma and Great Grandma.

Pat is survived by her husband William “Bill” C. Owens of Grandview, WA.  Children Lonnie L. Poteet (Toni) of St. Ignatius, MT, Jeffrey A. Owens of Portland, OR, Jessie L. Dutton (Rodney), Jacqueline M. Woodworth (Kevan) all of Vancouver, WA, Krystal L. Owens, William C. Owens, Jr. all of Richland, WA. Mary “Katie” Meza (Anthony) of Sunnyside, WA and Tiffany L. Owens of Grandview, WA.  Ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and, three brothers.  She is also survived by two nephews Richard James of Twin Falls, ID and Andrew James of Richland, WA, and  niece Helen Jensen of Raeford, NC in which she raised like her own children.

Pat is preceded in death by two sons, Mitchell D. Morris, Glenn E. Morris; parents Mitchell D. Birdwell, Jessie M. Birdwell; sisters Lillie M. Waidner, Rachael M. Snodgrass and brother, Glenn M. Birdwell.
