Henry V. Runyan of Sunnyside was born in Portland, Oregon On November 16, 1920 to Henry B. and Agnes Runyan.  He received his education at Dot Grade School, Bickleton High School, Adcox Aviation Trade School of Portland, Boeing School in Oakland, California, and Central Washington State College. He owned a body-fender shop in Goldendale, Wash., Taught School in Granger and Sunnyside, Wash. After teaching he worked at Amundson Hardware until retirement.

Better known as Vaughn, he served in the Army Air Force in WWII. Vaughn belonged to the IOOF, and was a Past Grand. He was a charter member of the Lower Valley Elks and a long-time member of the Eagles Lodge. He served as commissioner of the Boy Scouts and farmed south of Sunnyside. Vaughn was handy with tools and enjoyed fixing or building things. He had a long time hobby of music, both playing and listening. He liked to dance and tell jokes. The family wants to thank all the people at Sun Terrace, Heartlinks (Hospice), and special thanks to Anna Smith for care and assistance the last several years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife (of 61 years) Leona M. Brown, both parents, a sister Hester and (Charles) Allbritton, and sister in law June (Darrell) Runyan. Survivors include: Brother Darrell Runyan, Maggie and Fritz Stout, Niels and Whitney Brown, and many nieces, nephews, cousins plus many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sun Terrace, 907 Ida Bell Rd, Sunnyside on Saturday October 15th 2016 from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the International Order of Odd Fellows, PO Box 62, Bickleton, Washington.
