James Edward Pickett Jr. passed away at his home in Grandview, WA on June 14th, 2016 at the age of 50 after a courageous battle with cancer.

James was born to James Sr. and Evelyn Pickett on May 9th, 1966 in Long Beach, CA. He moved to Prosser when he was 10 years old where he was impressed by seeing snow for the first time. He graduated from Prosser High School in 1984. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and spent 4 years serving his country.

He spent his post-Army years living in Grandview with his wife, Coralea and working at Snokist and WalMart Distribution Center. He was a life-long member of American Veterans Post3733 and was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. James was very proud of his military contributions and very proud of his Country. He never missed a chance to march in a parade carrying our Nation’s flag and served as honor guard at many funerals of fallen veterans. He was known by friends, family, and even acquaintances as the guy who was rarely in a bad mood and always had a humorous, positive outlook on life.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Coralea Farris-Pickett; his siblings Annamarie (Tim) Call of Pasco, Paul Green of Zillah, Maryann (John) Hildebrant of Prosser, and David (Bonnie) Pickett of Yakima and his beloved nieces BJ and Stephanie (Jacob Wigley) Hildebrant of Richland; and his mother-in-law Mary Farris. He is also survived by his closest friends who were like a second family to him Marvin and Helen Trusley, Billy Trusley, Brandy (Brian) Davis, Courtney Trusley, and James and Skyler Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn Pickett; his sister, Evelyn Pickett; and his grandparents Paul and Eddie Pickett.

In lieu of a funeral service, a Celebration of Life potluck will be held on Monday, June 20th at 4pm at The Prosser Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Those wishing to sign James’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Homes in care of arrangements.
