Welcome to the memorial page for

Kay Eglet

August 12, 1943 ~ September 1, 2016 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Kay Joanne (Van Wyk) Eglet left us on the morning of September 1st in her sleep due to the ALS she has had for the past year, but only diagnosed for the last 5 months. She had 4 Daughters Teresa Anne Galvin (deceased 18 ½ years), Lori Anne Eveland & husband Jake of Milwaukie Oregon, Angela Kay Manfredi of New Jersey, & Sarah Elaine Burke & Husband Bill of New Jersey. Granddaughters Natalie Denise Galvin (Teresa and Son in law Denis daughter) Kayla Anne (Lori’s daughter of Milwaukie),  Michael Richard & Emily Grace Manfredi (Angela’s son & Daughter), and Sydney & Ellyson Burke (Sarahs daughters) and Great-grandson Abrahm (Kayla’s son). Kay had 2 Sisters (Elaine, and Hallie) 4 Brothers (Walter, Alan, Neil & Paul) and grew up on the Satus with her parents Walter & Freda Van Wyk (was funny how they quit raising beets after Kay got married), Graduating from Granger High School with the class of 1962, Went To YVC for one year in Yakima and met her future Husband Dick, Married in 1963 for just over 53 years. Kay also leaves behind the families of Eglet & Slagg kin that she Loved so very much including but not limited to, Sister in law Paula Thomas (Dick), Skip Eglet (Kathy), Tony Eglet (Shirley), Steve Eglet (Vicki), and all the nieces & nephews, and cousins. Kay drove School Bus for Zillah school District for 36 ½ years (she enjoyed the students and the job very much, ending up taking kids of kids of kids, she thought that was enough to write several books, but didn’t want the parents to be embarrassed by what their kids told her). Kay loved to work in her yard expanding her flower area every year and adding the Tea Pot Gazebo (a metal replica of the building she loved and worked at and lived by, till they moved it into Zillah). We all marveled at how she was able to keep up with the weeds, as it took many people to do the same this last summer.

Kay didn’t want any formal service (didn’t want to put people out) So we are honoring her wishes somewhat. We are opening her yard up Monday September 5th from 1 to 3:00 PM for anyone that would like to share her memory with us. If you can’t make it then you can stop anytime and hang a memory on her Tea Pot, or honk your horn when you go by if you remember our KAY. In lieu of flowers, you could donate to either the scholarship programs at Granger Alumni Association, or the Zillah Alumni Association in her name. Those wishing to sign Kay’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Homes, Sunnyside, WA. in care of arrangements.
