Marjorie Blanche Besst Colbert

Marjorie Blanche Besst Colbert age 96, longtime Sunnyside resident passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 in Sunnyside, WA.  Marjorie was born May 5, 1919 in Chugwater, Wyoming the daughter of William and Lily (Karn) Besst.  Marjorie grew up on a farm raising animals.  She took up embroidering in the 1920’s as a young girl and produced custom orders with themes ranging from sports motifs to animals.  Marjorie never stopped embroidering it was a therapy for her.  “It’s relaxing; it keeps my mind off all the bad things in the world” she once quoted. She never met a stranger, loved to visit with family and friends.  She also cherished family gatherings. Marjorie worked hard to provide the very best for her family. 

Marjorie is survived by seven children Opal Stice (Ray) Poulsbo, WA, Carol Zavala (Izzy) of Mabton, WA, Ida Acosta (Lorenzo) of Sunnyside, WA, Neoma Dawson of Granger, WA, Donna Colbert (Ruth) of Grandview, WA, Merle Lewis (Fran) of Grandview, WA and Robert Lewis of Kennewick, WA. She raised 3 grandchildren, Athena, Alysia and Henry.  She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Lily Besst, three sons, Gary Lewis, Fred Lewis, and George David Lewis, three daughters Betty Rose Lewis, Jeannie Getsinger and Blanche Lewis. 

Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Sunnyside, WA.
