Maurine B. Vance

Maurine B. Vance, age 95 of Sunnyside, WA passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 in Sunnyside surrounded by her loving family. Maurine was born November 4, 1920 in Bruce, Mississippi the daughter of Robert and Eslie (Burgess) Barton.  Maurine received her education in Bruce, Mississippi and graduated from high school with the class of 1937. She then attended nursing training at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, TX and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Maurine entered the United States Army Air Corps during WWII was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant stationed in Alaska with the 11th Air Force and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant Flight Nurse. While serving in the Army Air Corps in Alaska she met the love of her life Richard Vance and they were married on April 2, 1946 at the First Baptist Church in Bruce, Mississippi. For many years Maurine worked as the charge nurse at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Sunnyside, WA.  Maurine loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She cherished spending time outdoors enjoying God’s creations and fishing.

Maurine is survived by her husband Richard Vance of Sunnyside, WA, three children James Vance (Becky) of Spotsylvania, VA, Jack Vance (Suzanne) of Wichita, KS, and Janet Dunning (Carl) of Issaquah, WA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren (one more on the way). She is preceded in death by two sisters Robbie Brumfield and Bernice Simpson.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Maurine’s memory to Heartlinks Hospice and Palliative Care in Sunnyside.
