Mel was a great man, and a good friend of my grandfather's. I had the honor of playing golf with him once; a memory I will certainly cherish.

Cindy, Cathy, Rick, Lindsey, and all those that Mel made his own in his heart, his words and his deeds....Let us find comfort in our solidarity as we reflect on the wonders of a gentle man and a good soul that was generously endowed with spirit, wit, and a zeal for life. I am honored and grateful to be among those he loved as his own. While I am saddened that I will never again see his cheerful smile spread across his face when we meet, I will always feel the warmth that his smile conveyed to my heart whenever I remember him. To my sisters, I wish I could dissolve the heartache that you are experiencing, I'll always be here to light the torch of remembrance that will bring you comfort in the days ahead. I love you so very much.

I am so happy to of had Mel in my life. He was like a second father to me and more importantly, a grandfather to my two girls, who did not get to meet my father.

I will always remember Mel's friendly greetings when meeting up with him and his hugs when we left. My favorite story of Mel's is when he made an icecream maker when he was overseas in World War II. I also loved the way he had with animals.

We will miss you Mel, but know that you are golfing and singing in Heaven.

Mel was a special guy in our family for about 30 years. We had so much fun together with all our golf outings, including Palm Springs and Carmel and lots of in between. He always had a good story or joke to share and was a good listener if you had one as well. So happy that we could share his special birthday party with him and that he had quite a healthy and happy 95 years. He was one of the lucky ones that had a sharp mind to the end. Maybe it was the long hours he spent with crossword puzzles! We loved him and will miss his voice on the other end of the lineđź’•

Cathy and Cindy,
My heart is so heavy right now. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around Mel's passing. We were just celebrating his 95th birthday a few weeks ago. Deepest sympathy and many hugs to all of you.

We are so sorry to hear of Mel's passing. So true that he was always a gentleman. How was also a great friend (golfing buddy) at the golf course. Always quick with a smile and a joke. He will be missed by all who knew him.
