Michael "Mike" Metko

Michael Metko passed away on June 10, 2016 at the age of 91, at his home in Portland, Oregon. He was born November 24, 1924 on North Hempstead, Long Island, New York and retired many years ago as a pipefitter. Throughout his life Mike was a generous soul who consistently put others first. Not only was Mike a volunteer firefighter in his home state of New York, he also served in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during World War II. He received a Presidential Unit Citation for his service in the war, which is the highest organizational decoration awarded in U.S. armed forces.

Preceding Mike in death was his beloved wife Elsie F. Metko (Fern). Among those who will dearly miss him are his nephew Tim Metko and family with whom he lived for over 20 years and his grandson Michael McIntosh and family. Goodbye to a wonderful Uncle Mike and Grandpa.

Mike’s Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens Sunnyside, WA.
