Hi Mrs. Datsis, Cheryl, Craig and families. This is Ginny -- another one of the Francis Street kids wanting to send condolences for the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Living next door, I will always remember the way the two families greeted each other -- HACHEY!!!! to which we would reply DATSIS!!! That was just so cool for me --especially being brought up to call all my elders by a formal Mr./Mrs., Uncle/Aunt, etc. I always really liked Poppy. I can call him that now -- never could before! Always in a good mood. Always a wonderful smile! He will be missed. Again, so sorry for you loss. Ginny

Mrs. Datsis, Sherrill, Craig, Dwight, Delta and families,

I have great memories of Mr. Datsis from our childhood years, he was always chipper and welcoming when, as teenagers, we'd make our way to the Datsis home. Mr. Datsis' love of family and their friends was palpable in his words and actions.

It must have given Poppy much joy to be closer to some of his family after living far away for so many years. Our thoughts and blessings are with you all as you transition to life after Poppy.

With love,

My Uncle Poppy was the best uncle anyone could ask for. He always made me feel loved by including me in countless family trips to the beach, cooking my favorite foods, and teaching me new games. He certainly made a difference in my life. Robert and I will miss him terribly.
Love to everyone,
Cousie Deb and Robert

Dear Sherrill, I am so very sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. He was such a kind and gentle man; I remember fondly my visits to your home here in Waterville, where both your parents made me feel so welcomed. It's been many years and a couple thousand miles since then, but I still think of you often and offer my sincere condolences at this very sad time. Julia

Datsis hotdogs had the first pinball machine that I knew of, in Waterville, ME. For a while, it was in there, to be used for FREE, at the courtesy of Mr Datsis, for the patrons of the restaurant. I always thought that was a cool thing. Something that left a mark on me, telling me Mr Datsis was a very decent man. Sorry to Craig and family. Poppy was one of the coolest guys on earth, bar none. Boy could he cook a tasty hot dog. I miss him, but will live in my memories and heart forever.

He will always be known as "Poppy" to all of us former co-workers at the Waterville Post Office. He was one of the most liked employee at that office and always had a happy go lucky way no matter what problems came up. He will be missed by the few of us left that knew him.
