Ruth Nadine Cole (Evans) passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Saturday, April 14 2018 in Kennewick, WA.
Ruth was born Dec 12, 1931 to Eva and Ernest Evans in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Even though the family relocated to Grandview, Washington, Ruth never lost touch with her childhood friends nor was she ever very far from her southern roots...from her southern cooking to her soft drawl.
She married the love of her life, Donald T. Cole, in 1948 settling in Sunnyside, Wash. to raise their family. In addition to chasing after three young daughters and working at the telephone office, Sears, and Hanford as a certified welder and pipe fitter, she was an accomplished seamstress, cook, gourd artist, basket maker and neighborhood 'mom.' She also volunteered as book keeper for the local VFW, with the local law enforcement as a Domestic Abuse Counselor and with animal rescue. In 1989 she realized a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse....where she provided loving care to others in need.
Other lifelong interests included genealogy where she was especially proud of her Choctaw and Cherokee heritage.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Don; daughters Donna Becker (Terry Clark), Connie (Mark) Gores of Ellensburg and, Kris (Anthony) Marks Kennewick, many grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters and brother.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the local Veterans group or favorite animal rescue.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA. Those wishing to sign Ruth's online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Homes in care of arrangements.
