Sammy “Sam” Lee Hays, age 73, of Prosser, WA passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in Prosser, WA. Sam was born on May 27, 1942 in Seattle, WA the son of Ethyl Irene Hays and also raised by his step-father, Lorenzo Radford Peters. Sam served twenty years in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant in the 1995. Sam lived and worked in Sierra Vista, AZ for a number of years before moving to Washington State with his flock of Suffolk sheep and his then wife, Lee Hays (Chong Suk Yi). Sam was very active with the Washington State Wool Growers Association for many years acting as officer and board member while employed by VFW in Sunnyside, WA.
Sam is survived by a God child, Jennifer Dovers, two step children, Sue Bounds and Bill Collins, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, plus his wife, Francis Lee Hays of Prosser, WA and many friends and neighbors. Sam is preceded in death by his mother, Ethyl Irene Hays, step-father Lorenzo Radford Peters. One sister, Linda Lee Rotolo, two brothers, Charles N. Peters and Michael David Peters.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA with military honors. Burial will follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA. Following the graveside service there will be a time of fellowship and potluck at the Sunnyside V.F.W.
