Thelma Rose Pirie

November 3, 1920 ~ July 23, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old


Our beloved mother, Thelma Rose Pirie, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2016.  Thelma Rose was born November 3, 1920 in Tacoma, Washington to William and Rose Abernethy.  She attended Lincoln High School where she graduated in 1938. After graduation she attended secretarial school.  Her first job was head secretary for the Carstens Meat Packing Company in Tacoma. Thelma married Dr. George M. Pirie on July 13, 1945 in Tacoma, Washington.  Later, she and her family moved to Grandview where George started his veterinary practice on Wilson Highway. Gardening was a passion and she delighted in creating beautiful flower arrangements, while also judging them at the Grandview Fair.  She was a fabulous cook and extraordinary seamstress.  Thelma belonged to three bridge clubs, Home Arts, PEO, Garden Club, and Bethany Presbyterian Church.  Her family lineage allowed her to become a member of The Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. George M. Pirie and sister Lucille Keely. Thelma is survived by son Bruce M. Pirie of Renton, Doreen (Jim) Rigos of Seattle, Carole (Ron) Lyse of Gig Harbor, and Connie (Charlie) Crawford of Prosser.  She was blessed with 9 grandchildren; Ryan (Lauren) Lyse, Shane Lyse, and Brandt (Ali) Lyse, Sarah (Jamie)Tromans,  Chalyn Crawford, Krista (Tom) Dye, Kelsey (Gordon) Hill, Kellen Crawford, and Karley Crawford.  Olivia Rose Dye is her first great grandchild.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethany Community Church at 201 Birch Ave. Grandview, WA 98930.
