Verlyn Dean Burgers, 62, was born on September 13, 1954 to the late Gerrit and Jessie (Vander Werf) Burgers in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up on the farm with two brothers and three sisters near Colton, SD. He graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 1972. After graduation he went to vocational school in Mankato, MN to study agriculture. He married Darlene Faye Vande Brake on March 5, 1976. The couple lived near Edgerton, MN for ten years while farming, and moved to Svea, MN in 1986 where they remained for nearly 18 years. During that time Verlyn held multiple occupations in the dairy, sales, and trucking industries. His interests in agriculture took Verlyn and family to Sunnyside, WA where they have lived for 14 years. During Verlyn's time in Sunnyside he has worked in the agricultural services industry while also caring for his own cherries, grapes, and other varietals.
Verlyn was very involved in the church and surrounding community. He held roles in the church including deacon, elder, and chairperson of the Iglesia Evangélica committee. His passions were agriculture, his grandchildren, and socializing. Verlyn loved collecting old farm equipment, camping with family and friends, hunting, exploring the countryside, Saturday morning breakfast with the guys, and most of all, spending time with his grand children. Verlyn took great pleasure in socializing with others and sharing a laugh. He influenced the lives of many and was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
Those blessed to be a part of his life include his true love and wife, Darlene (Vande Brake) Burgers, four children: Nathan (Wendy) Burgers, Darin Burgers, Anita (Derek) Van de Graaf, and Justin Burgers; five grand children Carson, Landon, and Colton (Derek & Anita) and Genevieve and Francesca (Nate & Wendy); brother Ron and sisters Elaine (Warren) Boogerd, Phylis (Warren) Groen, and Linda (Arlin) Van't Hof, and several nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
