Wayne Chris Ruby

Surrounded by his family and friends, Wayne Ruby, went to be with the Lord July 11, 2016.

Wayne lived his life with humor and strength, making a friend out of strangers wherever he went. For those close to Wayne there was the honor of knowing you were his favorite. Wayne was a man of integrity, humility and strong faith. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, hunting agates at the beach, and spending time with his family. In the worst of times Wayne could make you laugh and feel loved. He was the gem in the Ruby family.

Wayne was born in Sturgis, South Dakota in 1946 to Richard and Arlene Ruby. He graduated from Sunnyside High School in Washington State in 1965 and was recruited into the United States Navy. After boot camp, Wayne was one of three chosen from his company to go to San Diego and teach new recruits. He served at the Cubi Point Naval Air Station in Bataan, Philippines and did an 18 month sea tour on the USS Hornet.

After the Navy Wayne joined the Washington State Patrol in 1970 and retired from the patrol in 1999.

Wayne is survived by "his bride" Pamela Ruby and three children, Michelle Baker of Yakima,  Chris (Sada) Ruby of Kennewick and Kate Khawaja of Richland, WA as well as four grandchildren, Kailey Ruby, Alika Ruby, Colbin Ruby and Kelsyn Ruby. He leaves behind his sister Sharon (Leroy) Ridenour and brother Bryan (Joan) Ruby.

There will be a private family celebration Saturday July 16th at 1pm at Bethel Church 600 Shockley Rd, Richland WA in the Ridge View room.

In lieu of flowers bring new stuffed animals to be donated to our local fire department, WSP and police department.  Those wishing to sign Wayne’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com  Smith Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
