Arlie E. Holden, aged 68, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Arlie, born on October 15, 1955, in Toppenish, WA, was the cherished son of Mary Jane Jensen and Lavin (Bud) Harris Holden. He was a proud descendant of the Yakama and Snohomish tribes and spent much of his life residing on the Yakama reservation.
In 1990, Arlie found his lifelong companion and soulmate, Sherre Ott Holden, whom he married and shared 34 years of unwavering love and companionship. Arlie was a dedicated worker, contributing his efforts to various farmers and ranchers on the reservation. He also ventured into long-haul trucking, traversing the country with companies such as Leonardo’s Trucking, while also engaging in the thrilling world of rodeo, particularly Wild Horse Racing, where he exhibited remarkable courage and tenacity.
In 1995, Arlie transitioned his skills to serve the Yakama Nation Housing Authority, where he worked diligently for over a decade, constructing and renovating homes for his community. His commitment to this work was evident, and he took immense pride in providing safe and comfortable housing for his fellow tribal members.
Unfortunately, in 2008, a significant injury compelled Arlie into retirement from the Yakama Nation Housing Authority, marking the end of a fulfilling career in home building and repair. Despite this setback, Arlie continued to find joy in the company of his beloved family and friends.
Arlie is survived by his devoted wife, Sherre Holden, and seven adoring children: Mary Dee (Gus) Gonzalez, Emilia (Amy) Holden, Cody (Daisy) Holden, Lidia (Morgan) Anderson, Mary Mendez, John (Allina) Mendez, and Jennifer (Brian) Allen. His legacy lives on through his 33 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
He is also fondly remembered by his six sisters: Judy Shirley, Lavon Meiser, Joy Holden, Linda Lamebull, Luella Lewis, and Jody (Tim) Davis. Arlie was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jane Jensen and Lavin H. Holden, as well as his brothers Larry Joe Brownlee, Daniel V. Brownlee, and Vernon L. Holden. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his nephew Mel Johnson, granddaughter Angel A. Allen, grandson Damien D. McBride, and great-granddaughter Anastasia M. Janshen.
