Barbara Roberts Obituary

On Saturday, July 21st, Barb Roberts was welcomed into paradise by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

An only child, she was born in Walla Walla, WA on May 17th, 1929 to Leroy “Bus” and Henrietta Andrus.  At the age of 14 the family moved to Sunnyside, WA.

It was in the eighth grade that she first met her future husband, Guy Roberts.  They dated through high school and were married on August 29th, 1948.  This year would have been their 70th wedding anniversary!  They were blessed with 5 children, Diana, Pam, Cindy, Scott and Chad. With a brood like that, the adventures never stopped!  Barb and Guy acquired a cabin at Rimrock Lake on White Pass in the mid seventies and it was here where her love of hiking, especially to the “big rock”, and playing board games was at its best.  A good fire and a good book brought her peace and contentment.  Barb loved watching all her kids and grandkids in their various activities; from piano, band and dance recitals to basketball, football, wrestling, baseball, horse shows and rodeo, she enjoyed/suffered through them all with grace and grit.   Barb and Guy had season tickets to both the Seattle Seahawks and WSU Cougars and even in the harshest weather they would make the trek over the hill to Seattle.  She loved taking care of her yard and cutting flowers to bring into the house for arrangements.  She cherished her years of working with Mark and Sara Cook at Morris Floral when her arthritic fingers and free time allowed.

Barb is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Roberts, who passed away on June 2nd, 2018; both of her parents “Bus” and Henrietta Andrus; her daughter, Pam Schoenberg and her son in law Mike Hopper.

She is survived by her daughters Diana Hopper and Cindy (Charlie) Hoctor and her sons Scott (Linda) and Chad Roberts.  Her grandchildren:  Michelle (Phil) Walchli, Seth (Kelli Proctor) Hopper, Christy (Rick) Perez, Deken (Holly) Schoenberg, Blake Schoenberg, Jodi (Holt) Morris, Alex Roberts, Zack Roberts, Calvin and Chloe Carr.  Her great grandchildren:  Cassidy Hopper, Colton Duquette, Michael Hopper, Ethan Smillie, Emmett Smillie, Blanca Perez, Noah Perez, Elijah Perez, Louie Perez, Eden Perez, Imani Perez, Pamela Schoenberg, Scarlett Schoenberg, Emery Morris, Palmer Morris and Clay Morris and sister in law – Delores Roberts.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA with a graveside service to follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA at 11:00 a.m. A reception will directly follow at Doc’s on the Green Pizza in Granger, WA.  Those wishing to sign Barbara’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com.
