Fern Gladys Williams, age 93, of Goldendale, WA and former Lower Valley, went to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Fern was born on April 12, 1926 in Bethune, Colorado the daughter of Emma (Sack) and Christian T. Schaal. She received her education in Mabton and graduated with the Class of 1946. On September 2, 1945, she married George Williams at the Pilgrim Congregation Church in Wapato, WA at Noon. Fern filled her life with many commitments such as being a homemaker, Campfire Girl Leader, Good News Club Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, and cooking for both the nursing home and elementary school. Fern sewed clothing for her daughter, Joyce throughout her school days. She also spoiled her family by making quilts for children and grandchildren. In her spare time Fern enjoyed gardening, needle point and sewing. She with her husband George loved to travel, and visited all fifty, US States. Fern was a member of the Community Grace Brethren Church in Goldendale.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Taylor, three grandsons, Jeff of Spokane, Dan of Tacoma and Rick (Michelle) of North Bend. One granddaughter Keri (Rafael) Landeiro of New York City. One great grandson Reynaldo James Garcia Landeiro. She is also survived by one brother George Schaal of The Dalles, OR. Fern is preceded in death by her parents Emma and Christian Schaal, husband George Williams; sisters Roberta Meek, Eileen Schaal, brothers Alvin Schaal, Chester Schaal and infant son Roger Lee Williams and son Gregory Allen Williams.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Grace Brethren Church in Goldendale, WA. Burial will be at the Mabton Cemetery on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA.
