Jose S. Garcia, age 84, longtime Granger, WA resident passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Yakima, WA. Jose was born on November 1, 1933 in Helena, TX the son of Juanita (Salazar) and Inez Garcia. In December of 1954 Jose married the love of his life, Margarita Salazar. As a young couple Jose and Margarita took on the responsibility in caring for and raising Margarita’s four brothers and two sisters. Jose worked for Schell Farms before working for the Granger School District for twenty-five years as a bus driver and custodian. While working at the school Jose was very active in the Dollar for Scholars Scholarship Fund. In his early years Jose loved to box and hunt. In his later years he took pride and enjoyed working on his ten acre farm. Jose was a very active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, WA.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Margarita Garcia of Granger, WA. Six children Jose Alfredo Garcia of Granger, WA, Arturo Salazar of Port Townsend, WA, Frank Salazar (Margaret) of Walla Walla, WA, Jose Salazar (Janie) Tri-City, WA, Ricardo Salazar of Seattle, WA, Cuca Botello (Alfonso) of Yakima, WA and son-in-law Jim Cantu of Bellevue, WA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, three brothers Guadalupe Morales, Pablo Garcia both of CA, Tim Garcia of TX, two sisters Maria Luna and Rosa Guerra of CA. He is preceded in death by one child Biatris Cantu.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, WA. Burial will follow at the Zillah Cemetery.
