Joseph S. Moore passed away on December 15, 2018 at his home in Sunnyside, WA. Joe was born in Yakima, WA on April 12, 1939 the youngest of three sons to William E. and Ruth Ann (Pettijohn) Moore. Joe was a 12 year Veteran of the Moxee School District graduating with the infamous and Rebellious Class of “1957” It was a very good year.
In 1962 Joe married Kay L. Simmons of Sunnyside, WA. Together they raised four wonderful children who were the very light of their lives. At the early age of ten Joe followed his two older brothers and went to work during the summer months with his Grandfather the late W.W. Pettijohn who was a early day Yakima Pioneer (1898) his grandfather was a contractor and house mover who had to quit school at age ten to help support his family. He wanted to instill in his grandsons the value of knowing what a honest day of work was and to appreciate the value and importance of education. Joe was very proud of his ancestral family history. The Moore side of the family arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1670 the Pettijohn side of the family arrived in Jamestown in 1643 both sides arriving as indentured servants. Joe was a licensed insurance and real estate agent since 1963. He also found time to farm in the Outlook area raising asparagus, open crops and raising cattle. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Lt. Col. Walter G. Moore. He is survived by his four children Sherri L Moore, Joseph S. Moore Jr., Brittan M. Moore and Christian D. Moore. He is also survived by his older brother, Thoma E. Moore, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
