Lloyd Schaffer Obituary

Lloyd D. Schaffer, age 82, passed away peacefully early Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was born June 3, 1936 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado to Wilbur and Edith (Moon) Schaffer. He was the oldest of three children. He married Naoma (Judy) Makovsky, June 25, 1954 in Grandview, Washington. Lloyd spent most of his adult life in the agriculture business. Usually he could be found driving a tractor. He was a very dedicated fan of John Deere equipment. After a long day of work, you could find him standing at the top of a field. His arm propped across the top of a shovel, enjoying the water trickle down the rows and watching the crops grow. He loved the big blue sky, wide-open country, and camping in the hills. As we all know farmers never actually retire. Whether it be in the ground or in buckets on the porch he had to be growing something. He grew amazing tomatoes. Late in life Lloyd fell in love with woodworking. He started making writing pens and sold them. Many now own and enjoy his beautiful works of art. Lloyd also really loved Jesus. He was a life-long Seventh-day Adventist who lived ready for Christ’s return. In his Bible all his underlined verses spoke of faith, forgiveness, and a Heavenly Kingdom to come. These verses were a source of strength in difficult times. After being diagnosed with cancer he battled for his life with chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Lloyd spent his last Sabbath surrounded by family, love, and many prayers. He is survived by wife, Naoma (Judy); a brother, Charles (Martha) Schaffer; son, Buck (Suzette) Schaffer; daughter, Darla Schaffer; 7 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at the Kennewick Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7105 W 10th Ave, Kennewick WA 99336, November 17, 2018 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate blood and support your local Red Cross. It was due to the selfless donation from others that allowed us an extra year with him.

Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens 915 By Pass Hwy Richland, WA  99352.  Those wishing to sign Lloyd’s online memorial book may do so at www.funealhomesmith.com   Smith Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
