Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Luis Jose Marie Alcala passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born January 8, 1935, to Jesus and Nellie Alcala in Sterling, Colorado. He met and married the love of his life Teresa Lopez in Edinburg, Texas on April 1st, 1952 and enjoyed being married to her for 68 years. They moved to Washington state in 1953.
Luis and his dear wife, Teresa, had eight beautiful children. He is survived by his spouse Teresa Alcala, children Linda Andrews (Frank), Irma Lange, Helen Andrews (Don), Louis Alcala (Shelley), Sam Alcala, Irene Perez (Ray), and Delia Salas (David). He is also survived by 23 grandkids, 30 great grandkids, his brother Joe Alcala and two sisters Elaine Alcala and Irene Alcala.
He was preceded in death by one son Jesse Alcala and sister Antonia Rios.
He worked at Del Monte Corporation in Toppenish for 42 years and retired in 1993. He enjoyed gardening, watching his grandkids play sports, watching the Mariners, Seahawks, and game shows. He loved going to legends casino where he tore up the card room with his card playing ability. As he aged he enjoyed walking at the casino and visiting with his many friends. He was a devoted Catholic. He will be remembered for his kind heart and generosity. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA. with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 9 am at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah, WA. with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery, Zillah, WA.
