Mary H. Whetzel

May 18, 1928 ~ March 20, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Mary Helen Whetzel went to be with our Lord on March 20th, 2017 in Sunnyside, WA. Mary was born May 18th, 1928 in lnvermere, West Virginia to Edith Hatfield and Percy Herndon. After High School she married Clyde Whetzel. Their union was blessed with four children-Mary was a house wife and excellent cook which she credits her Mother-in-law. Later in life they divorced and Mary returned to Zanesville, Ohio where she was the Residence Director and a Foster Grandparent at the Young Womens Christian Association. There she was a Mother and Friend to many women. In 2004, she moved to Washington State to be near her daughter Debbie, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent many happy times with her great grandchildren Cassidy, Megan and lsaac. There she remained until her death.

Mary is survived by her children, Ron of Dubois, Wyoming, Larry (Kathy) of Blue Rock, Ohio, Debbie (Bob) of Sunnyside, WA, step daughter, Gracie Whetzel Johnston of Sunnyside, WA. Grandchildren, Rachel of Washington, Joshua of Tacoma, WA, Michael of Mt. Shasta, CA, and Lacie of Charlotte, NC. Great Grandchildren, Cassidy, Megan, and lsaac of Pasco, WA, and Greyson and Phenius of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her sisters Nancy of Nevada, Ruth of Martinsburg, brothers John Rober “Bob”of Ohio, and Bill of Grafton. Two wonderful and loving friends who were of great support, Mark and Joslyn laVera of Ellensburg, WA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Mark, brother Clarence “Dutch” Herndon, sister Dorothy Alice Herndon Ogletree, brother Glenn “Bud” Herndon, and Harry “Jim” Herndon.

Mary was laid to rest at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA March 24th 2017. The family of Mary would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heartlinks Hospice for their loving care.
