Melvin J. Herigstad

Melvin John Herigstad was born October 14, 1921 in Mohall, ND.  He passed away on November 20, 2016 in Tri Cities, WA at the age of 95. 

Mel was a born gentleman--as a triplet, he let his two sisters out of the womb first.  He lived a very full life in the nine decades he was on this earth.  Working on the farm; singing professionally with his sisters; serving his country in the Army during WWII,  a long standing member of Our Saviour’s  Lutheran Church, becoming an avid golfer (with a hole-in-one on his 88th birthday!)   He married Dorothy Smith, the love of his life, and had two daughters, Cathy and Cindy.  Later in life he found love again with Edna Milroy; they were married for over 30 years.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents Lars and Mabel, brothers Lester, Harold and Reinald, sisters Margaret and Myrtle, his first wife Dorothy and second wife Edna.  He is survived by daughters Cathy and Cindy (Rick), granddaughter Lindsey (Conner), daughter Anita (Bill) and granddaughter Kim (Bob).  He also leaves a legacy through numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

A fine ending for one journey, and the beginning of another…

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday November 30, 2016 at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA with Military Honors.  A reception will follow the service at the VFW Hall in Sunnyside, WA.  Those wishing to sign Mel’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com
