Michael A. Koehler (Mike) passed away November 8, 2018 at the Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA. He was born December 2, 1947 in Sunnyside, WA to Victor and Doris Koehler. Sunnyside was Mike’s home since 1959.
When he was 15, he had his spine completely fused due to scoliosis at the Shriners Hospital in Spokane and spent a year in a body cast.
He played card and tile games with us and loved it as he always won. A creative side to him was drawing old western motif pictures with just a No.2 pencil.
Mike joined the Job Corp and learned all kinds of handyman trades, which came in handy while he lived at Willow Park Apartments. Anyone who needed a light bulb changed or plumbing problem, he was there to help. The ladies would repay him with meals and he especially liked the ones who made pies for him.
Mike is survived by Danna Huss, Patsy Heimgarten, Leslie Koehler and Steven Koehler. Four nieces, Melanie King, Angie Smith, Keri Zieski and Tracy McChesney. Also survived by seven great nieces and nephews and the many special friends at Willow Park.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to sign Michael’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Homes in care of arrangements.
