Nora Barrera Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend Nora Lynne Barrera went to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at her home in Grandview, WA.   Nora was born on July 10, 1964 in Prosser, WA the daughter of Genoveva (Cervantes) and Alejandro Hernandez.  She received her education in Mabton and graduated with the Mabton High School Class of 1982.    In 1984 Nora married the love of her life, Jose Luis Barrera in Mabton, WA.   Following their marriage they moved to Grandview and raised three children Alejandro (A.J.), Cassandra and Janettee.  Nora decided to go back to school and began at Yakima Valley College.   She later went to Heritage College and was one of the first of 28 students who graduated from Heritage College Nursing Program.   Nora worked various jobs during her working career including, LPN at Sheffield Manor in  Prosser, WA, Personal Home Health Care Provider, receptionist at DaVita in Zillah, WA, and properties  management assistant for D.K. Bain in Sunnyside, WA.  Nora was a Past Auxiliary Madam President of Sunnyside F.O.E. #2927.  She loved spending time at the beach with family, watching the game show network and criminal T.V. shows.  Nora was a devoted Seahawk Fan and also enjoyed watching baseball and basketball.  Tupperware was both a business and hobby to her.

Nora is survived by the love of her life, Jose Luis Barrera of Grandview, WA,  Children Alejandro (A.J.) Barrera (Veda)  of Sunnyside, WA, Cassandra L. Barrera and Janettee L. Zuni (Joshua) all of Grandview, WA.  Two granddaughters Mattelynne Barrera and Angelina Zuni. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro and Genoveva Hernandez and brother, Dave Hernandez.

Celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA.  Those wishing to sign Nora’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com    Smith Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
