Patricia Ann Childers passed away on July 22, 2018, in Sunnyside, Washington. She was 82 years old. She was born in Cedar Grove, Tennessee on February 25, 1936 to Hollon and Bessie Fry and had a younger sister, Carol Kelsey.
She and her family moved to Granger, Washington, in 1943 where she met her future husband, Martin Childers, in the second grade. A few years later, her family moved to Pendleton, Oregon. She and Martin became reacquainted in high school at Upper Columbia Academy, in Spangle, Washington.
They were married on April 24, 1955, and settled into farm life in Toppenish, Washington. During their farming years, Patricia assisted with the farm’s book work and spent many summers working in the mint fields. She enjoyed taking pictures at weddings, birthday parties and graduations. Another favorite pastime was watching the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. In 2010, Martin retired and they spent many happy days traveling around the country.
Patricia was the loving mother of Sherri Flynt, of Orlando, Florida, and Mike Childers, of Toppenish, Washington.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband, Martin, of 63 years; daughter, Sherri, son, Mike; her 98 year old mother, Bessie, and sister, Carol; her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and all the children that fondly called her “Grandma Pat”.
Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Service will be Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery in Zillah, WA.
