Patrick "Troy" Smith

December 31, 1958 ~ March 18, 2017 (age 58) 58 Years Old

Patrick “Troy” Smith, 58, left this earth Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 1:07 p.m. to begin his “walking” journey again.  Troy was born December 31, 1958 in San Diego, CA to Patrick “P.T.” Smith and Kay Kendall. Troy attended school in Yakima, WA and graduated from Davis High School Class of 1977.  In addition to being an avid outdoorsman there wasn’t any sport or activity he didn’t excel at including but not limited to fishing, hunting, snow skiing, golf, baseball and everything else.  He crabbed in the Bering Sea for several years and later enjoyed crabbing and fishing the Puget Sound in his boat the “KTK”.  Due to a disabling accident at the age of 30 he became a quadriplegic.  This never stopped him from living life to the fullest.  His competitive spirit and determination in life was never questioned by those who knew and loved Troy.  Troy showed his unconditional love for his family and friends by always taking the time to be there to support them no matter how big or small of a task it was.   If you went to visit him and Paige you were guaranteed to walk out in a happier mood then when you arrived.  He could help fix any problem no matter how big or small and always worried about everyone else before himself. Troy was the “Uncle” you always dreamed of having.  This is a title he wore proudly. He provided his niece, nephews and great nephews with whatever they needed whether it was a cheering role at a sporting event, spreading rose petals, or ordering shoes of various sizes that sometimes filled his closet like a shoe store.  Our hearts are broken to see him go but thankful that he touched us so deeply we will always have our memories and his never-ending love that will never disappear.  Troy is survived by Paige, his Black Lab who kept him company and helped him to be able to continue to live independently after the death of his Mom in 2004.   Paige accompanied Troy everywhere and sure enjoyed their adventures.  At times we as well as Paige questioned his motives or ideas.  His father, Patrick “P.T.” Smith of Florala, AL. Sisters, Tracey Phillips (Darrell) of Yakima, WA, Burelena Charlet (Mark) of Gleed, WA. Nephew, John Phillips (Brenda) and son Sean of Gilbert, AZ. Mandy Phillips and sons Jadan and Jaxon of Yakima, WA.  Niece Holli Kay Rosen and fiancé Eric and future great nephew Owynn Troy Mack (due June 2017) of Yakima, WA. Nephews, James Phillips and Kyle Rosen of WA.  Extended Family includes Rod Bault, Dave and Liz Davidson, Uncle Ed and Carol Lane. Caregivers Chris and Rachelle Sage, which we will forever be thankful for.  As well as several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.  Troy is preceded in death by his mother, Kay and grandparents Burel and Ada and Tom and Nora.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene 2805 Englewood Ave. in Yakima, WA. A reception to follow at Troy’s home.  Casual attire and blue jeans are welcome.
