Robert Calvin Crawford, 87 yrs. Of Benton City, WA. Went home to his heavenly father September 17, 2018 in Walla Walla, WA. Robert was born in Klamath Falls, OR. To Hobert F. & Mabel (VanHorn) Crawford. He lived most of his life in Benton City, WA. Robert graduated from Benton City High School in 1951. This is where he met Arlene Tarr. After graduating high school, Robert entered the United States Navy. On April 1, 1951, while on leave from the Navy, Robert and Arlene were married. Robert served aboard 2 air craft carriers. The USS Valley Forge and the USS Leyte.
After the war, Robert worked at Hanford for 37 years. He was a devoted family man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather (Big Papa), brother & Uncle. Robert was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Kennewick, WA. Together, Robert and Arlene had 3 sons. Larry, Roy, & Kevin and 1 daughter, Carolyn.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years Arlene Crawford, son Roy Crawford & wife Candace or Cornelius, OR. Son Kevin Crawford & wife Rena of Yakima, WA. daughter Carolyn Crawford of Benton City, WA. Daughter in law Mary Crawford of Benton City, WA. Along with 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Hobert F. & Mabel (VanHorn) Crawford, Brother George H. Crawford, sister Fern D. Davis and son Larry R. Crawford, along with blood brother Albert Kastle. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Friday, September 28, 2018 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home 528 S. 8th St. Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens 7800 Van Belle Rd. Sunnyside, WA. Military Honors will be presented by Lower Valley Honor Guard. Reception following services will be in Benton City at the community center behind US bank.
