Tomas Perez, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16th at 8pm at Sun Terrace in Prosser, WA upon hearing the sounds of the ‘jake brakes’ as the last semi-truck came down the hill, a familiar sound to him from his many years as a trucker. He was born on March 7th, 1929 in Edinburg, TX to Santiago and Juanita Perez. He married Elodia Rodriguez on May 5, 1950 in Edinburg, TX. Tomas worked for Higgins Farms from 1960-1970 and then owned and operated Perez Trucking Inc. alongside his son Tomas Jr. Perez until he retired in 1993. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and loved dancing with his wife, Elodia, friends and family to Tex-Mex music. One of his joys in life was being surrounded by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Tomas was an active participant at the Grandview Senior Citizen Center and was loved and admired by his family residents at Sun Terrace, Prosser, WA. Tomas leaves a legacy of integrity, hard work ethics, and loyalty to all those he knew. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Grandview, WA and a Guadalupano. He is survived by five (5) children: Anna Marrs (Terry), Jorge Perez, Minerva Morales (Robert), Tomas Perez Jr., Ray Perez (Julie), 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren. Tomas was the eldest of ten children: Concepion Garza (Adam), Ernestina Cardenas (Roberto), Manuela Ortiz (Fortino), Max Perez (Delia), Joe Perez (Josefina), Inocencia Sanchez (Andy), Jim Perez (Paula) and Vicky Garcia (Milo). He was preceded in death by his wife, Elodia Perez, parents Santiago and Juanita Perez and one sister, Ernestina Cardenas.
Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with recitation of Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Grandview, WA. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, WA with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery in Grandview, WA.
