Angelita Peña Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother Angelita Pena (Guerra) passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at her home in Sunnyside, Washington surrounded by her loving family. Angelita Guerra was born on December 16, 1929, in La Rosita, Texas to her parents Evangelina and Felix Guerra. She married Ricardo Pena in Harlingen, Texas on October 14, 1946.  She loved making tamales, doing puzzles, gardening, quilting, crocheting, canning salsa, and making clothes for her sons and daughters. She also enjoyed working as a farm laborer alongside her husband and family. She lived a farm laborer’s life and spent many years traveling back and forth to Texas, Michigan, Idaho, California, Oregon and Washington following the harvests before finally settling in Granger, Washington. They relocated to Sunnyside, Washington in 2007 to present.  She will be remembered for her sharp mind and loving nature. She had a knack for recounting stories of past times and could easily remember the names and birthdays of all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Angelita was preceded in death by her parents, Evangelina and Felix Guerra, her brothers, Jose Guerra (Rosa), Narciso Guerra, and Monce Guerra, her sisters, Antonia (Gloria) Fraga, Lusila Benavidez and her sons (infant son)-Jose Luis Pena and Ramiro Pena, and two grandchildren, Joey Pena and Aaron Pena.  She is survived by her husband of 79 years, Ricardo Pena, her sons Rick Pena (Yolanda), Israel Pena (Delores), Joe Pena (Pepa), Romy Pena, John Pena (Sue), Robert Pena, Ruben Pena (Linda) and her daughters Connie Anaya (Ramon), and Sally Garcia (Paul). She will also be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her 36 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren and 46 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Zillah Cemetery. Following the burial, the Pena family invites everyone to attend a memorial luncheon for Angelita beginning at 1:00 pm at the Zillah Community Center.
