Anna Kristina Hunter

Long time Grandview resident, Anna Hunter, passed away on January 6, 2019 in LaPalma, California where she was living with her daughter and son-in-law.

Anna Kristina Kron was born in Loup City, Nebraska on September 14, 1920 to parents Ernest T. Kron and Lizzie Petersen Kron. Anna lived on a farm with her parents and siblings, brothers Carl & Ed and sisters Ruth, Ruby & Hazel. All of the children walked a few miles to attend a one room school house. When the children reached High School age, they had to go to another school in another town. When Anna was 14 years old and ready to start her freshman year in High School, her family moved to another farm near Richland, Washington. Anna attended Richland High School and graduated in 1938.

In 1939 Anna applied to Nursing School and was accepted. She trained for 2 years at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, Washington and 1 year at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington.   In 1942 Anna received her Certificate as a Registered Nurse.

While training in Spokane, Anna met an Army soldier stationed there. His name was Harold Hunter. After dating for awhile, the couple fell in love. The couple decided to get married and went to Coeur

d'alene, Idaho on May 15,1942 and tied the knot. Unfortunately, World War II was going on and Harold was shortly ordered overseas to serve in Australia and New Guinea to fight the Japanese. Harold was supposed to be gone for 1 year, but did not return until 3 years later. The couple did not know when Harold left that Anna was pregnant. Son Kenneth was born on February 16, 1943. When Harold returned home, Anna and Kenneth were living in Pico, California near Harold's parents.

After Harold was discharged from the Army in 1947, the family moved to Grandview, Washington to be near some of both of their siblings. They settled on a farm located on Euclid Road near the Yakima River. They mostly raised mint and alfalfa. They had pigs, chickens, beef and a milk cow. Two years later daughter Donna was born on April 4, 1949. A couple of years after that the family moved to another farm at the corner of King Tull and Griffen Roads between Grandview and Prosser. Anna worked hard as a farmer's wife and mother, but in 1955 it was decided that Anna should put her

nursing skills to work. Anna went to work for the Prosser Memorial Hospital where she continued working until 1979. In 1965 Harold suffered a heart attack, followed by open heart surgery in 1976. The farm was sold and the couple moved into Grandview. Harold eventually passed away on April 10, 1990. Three years later, Anna moved to an Adult Mobile Home Park on Euclid Road (Quail Run Mobile

Home Park). She lived next door to her sister, Ruth, until Ruth's death.   Near Thanksgiving of 2017, Ken and Donna did not want their mother living alone any longer and moved her to California to be with Donna & Zach.

Anna loved to bowl and enjoyed that activity for many years. Playing cards was another fun activity. Anna kept busy with traveling, making quilts and stained glass windows for church and worked for the Yakima County Health District for 10 years by cutting toenails for those unable to do so for themselves.

Anna is survived by her son Kenneth (Kathleen) Hunter of Bellingham, WA, daughter Donna (Zach) Bohn of LaPalma, CA, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Euclid Street, Grandview, WA 98930.
