On July 28, 2024, Barbara Lynne Jarvis, 67, of Grandview, WA, went to live with her Heavenly Father and the angels!
Barb was born on June 13, 1957 in Asheville, NC to Eunice Ruth (Wilson) & Stanley C. Kowalkowski.
In her early years, Barb attended parochial schools in Waynesville, NC & Roanoke, VA.
Her family moved from Roanoke to Walla Walla, WA when her dad took the position of Superintendent at Whitman Mission National Historic Site (NHS) in 1971.
Barb attended St. Patrick Junior High School & DeSales High School in Walla Walla, graduating in 1975.
She later pursued a nursing career at WWCC and was pinned in 1987, when her son, Marshall was a newborn infant. Then in 1988, Barb received her RN degree.
In 1997, Barb reconnected with an old work friend, Jim Jarvis, from her days at "Pepe's Pizza aka Pizza Pete". A year later, on August 22,1998, they were married and then moved to Clarkston, WA where they lived for several years before moving to Grandview so Jim could pursue a career in Management.
Barb returned to the Catholic Church after 30 years and so in 2007, Barb & Jim took a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. Upon returning, Jim started instructions in the Faith and entered the Church the following year.
Barb was active in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, becoming a teacher of Religious Education as well as a Reader/Lector and an extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion & she enjoyed singing.
Barb will be remembered for her love of growing beautiful flowers and taking care of cats.
When Barb arrived in Walla Walla, it was like "returning to the country" because it was during the State Fair and most people were wearing cowboy boots & riding horses.
Barb's relatives often commented that "you can take Barbara Lynne out of the country, but you cain't take the country out of Barbara Lynne".
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Jim and her son, Marshall Woodland of Walla Walla and her siblings & spouses: Mary Meli (Mike) of Falls Church, VA, Stan Kowalkowski (Dianna) of Olympia, WA, Suzan Daltoso (David Brown) of Chandler, AZ, Jim Kowalkowski (Debi) of Davenport, WA & Chris Kowalkowski (Cindy) of Walla Walla, WA and aunts Lynn Bammesbeger & Rita Borghese and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents, Bertha & Stanley Kowalkowski, and numerous Aunts, Uncles & cousins.
A Rosary will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4th at 5:00 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grandview, WA. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grandview, WA. Inurnment will be in Walla Walla at the Mountain View Cemetery on Friday, August 9,2024 at 2:00 pm.
