Barbara J. Quigley (August 17, 1935 - August 8, 2023)
Barbara (‘Bobbi’) Josephine Quigley, 87, serenely passed away at her home in Prosser, WA on the evening of August 8, 2023. Characteristically joyful and positive, Bobbi spent her final days surrounded by family and cheered by the plethora of flowers and cards sent by well-wishers.
She is survived by her son, Michael Quigley of Los Altos, CA; her granddaughters Lauren Quigley of Davis, CA and Caroline Quigley of San Luis Obispo, CA; her brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Sue Michaelsen of Prosser; her sister-in-law Rita (Quigley) Ladiges of Goldendale; and numerous nephews and nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Keith Quigley of Sunnyside and her parents Harvey and Elizabeth Michaelsen of Sunnyside.
Born in Wenatchee on August 17, 1935, Bobbi lived in Spokane as a child and spent summers with her Aunt Helen Michaelsen in Ellensburg. Later, her parents moved to Yakima where Bobbi graduated from Yakima High School in 1952. She attended Central Washington University where she earned her BA in Education in 1955 and later her MA in Early Childhood Development and Literature in 1961. She met her husband Keith Quigley in Yakima, and in December 1957, the couple married and ultimately moved to Sunnyside. Fueled by a passion to nurture young minds, Bobbi taught First Grade at Washington Elementary School in Sunnyside for 10 years before transferring to Outlook Elementary School where she taught for 44 years before retiring in 2011 at the age of 75. Her dedication was recognized by a myriad of local, state and national educator awards spanning her six-decade career. Mrs. Quigley is lovingly remembered by multiple generations of parents and students who had the great fortune to have her as their advocate and teacher.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Sunnyside this fall (final date & location TBD). In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made in Bobbi’s name to the Foundation for Women’s Cancer: https://foundationforwomenscancer.org/support-us/donate/ Those wishing to sign Bobbi’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
