Barbara "Ann" Bentley

Barbara Ann Bentley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away on August 4th at the age of 84. A longtime resident of Grandview, Washington, Ann lived a quiet, gracious life centered around her faith, her family, and the people she loved most.

Ann was born September 8, 1941, in Toppenish, Washington, to Phillip Grant and Alice Phoebe Wilhelm Grant. She was born into a longtime Grandview family with generations of family history and strong ties to the community. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1960 and later attended Central Washington University.

On October 7, 1960, Ann married the love of her life, Don Bentley. They shared 64 years of marriage, remaining devoted to one another through all the seasons of life. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, family, and countless memories.

Ann had a long and successful working career, spending 4 years with Hanford, 22 years with Yakima Valley Grape, and 18 years with Sunnyside Valley Irrigation District (SVID). She was known for her incredible efficiency, organization, and dedication. She was so good at what she did that when she retired, it took three people to replace her. Apparently, one Ann was a pretty tough act to follow!

A woman of strong Christian faith, Ann and Don faithfully attended church every Sunday. She cherished her church family, especially the friendships, fellowship, and Bible studies she shared with them.

Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She and Don were blessed with sons Jeffrey Scott Bentley, married to Nicole (Castilleja) Bentley, and Russell Bentley, married to Samantha (Harris) Bentley. Her grandchildren—Keely, Mylee, Bodhi, Kiley Bonarrigo and her husband, Tim, Jaxxon, and Mavryk—and her great-grandchildren, Beckett and Ledger, were among the greatest loves of her life.

Ann was a Greyhound fan to the core, but above all, she was a true fan of her family. She was a huge supporter of her sons when they played sports, and that same pride continued with her grandchildren. Ann and Don became fixtures in the Grandview gym during basketball season, and anyone who attended the games knew they could count on seeing them in the stands. They traveled near and far to cheer on their grandchildren in whatever they were doing. Ann and Don were there. She loved every minute of it.

In her younger years, Ann and Don enjoyed snowmobiling, riding horses, and camping. As they grew older, those adventures became fewer and their focus turned increasingly toward their family. Ann was also a devoted Seattle Mariners and Gonzaga basketball fan.

Ann is survived by her husband, Don; her sons and their families; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Billy (Grant) Trailer and her husband, Bill; her cousin, Lois Parkinson and her husband, Rod; and dear friends from her church family.

Ann’s legacy is the quiet, steadfast love she gave to her family and friends. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother, and gracious woman who showed her love simply by being there. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Community Church in Grandview, Washington with a graveside service to follow at the Grandview Cemetery in Grandview Washington.
