Darlene Bennett Obituary

Darlene Fay Bennett

June 19, 1939 - June 5, 2022

Our beloved Darlene Fay Bennett, completed her mortal journey on Sunday, June 5, 2022, just shy of her 83rd birthday. Darlene was born in Emmett, ID, June 19, 1939 to Ernest Scott and Eloise (Leichty) Scott. She spent her early years in Emmett and then moved with her family to Hanford, WA, Athol, ID and Sunnyside, WA. Her high school years were spent in Sunnyside, Benton City and then Prosser, WA where she graduated from high school. It was during her high school years that she met Gary Bennett. They married September 23, 1957 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. Darlene and Gary settled in Prosser where they raised their family. Darlene was a homemaker but worked for a few years outside the home at the WSU Agricultural Irrigation Research and Extension Center. She also drove a school bus for a few years for the Prosser School District. Her favorite route was for special needs children. Darlene’s favorite job, however, was as a wife and mother where she truly shined. Darlene had many interests and developed several talents. Some of them included: quilting, crocheting, fishing, gardening, and canning fruits and vegetables. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed much for her family such as shirts, a suit, and dresses that included formals and a wedding dress. Another joy she had was cooking for other people. Darlene was happiest when she was serving her family and spending time with her posterity. Darlene’s focus and joy was her family. Her true love was her husband Gary. They enjoyed spending many hours together as they followed their children in their many activities. They served a 15-month mission together for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Regional Employment Center in Kennewick, WA. They later served as temple workers in the Columbia River Temple. As a member of her church, Darlene served in many callings in the Primary, Relief Society, Young Womens and as a seminary teacher. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart and showed it by serving others as He would have her do.

Darlene is survived by Gary, her husband of 64 years, their children Carma (Gary) Huggard, Janelle (Howard) Burch, Colleen (Mike) Wright, Robin (Valerie) Bennett, Ginger (Glenn) Crawford, and Chip Bennett. She has 39 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren (and five on the way). She is also survived by her younger brother Ernest Scott. She was preceded in death by her brothers Phillip and Daniel Scott and her parents Ernest and Eloise Scott.

A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1835 Highland Drive, Prosser, WA with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. for all family and friends.
