Darrell Stenberg passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Sunnyside, WA. He was born in Kirkland, WA on March 5, 1954 to Kenny and Lucille Stenberg (Kleer).
When Darrell was in fourth grade the family moved to Grandview, WA where his dad transferred to the Safeway Brookside Plant.
From a very early age Darrell loved and excelled in sports. In high school he played Football, basketball and baseball, lettering in all three sports, all three years, earning numerous all league honors. He was proudly a part of the “Stenberg Brothers “ legacy. After graduation he attended YVCC for a quarter. However, his competitive spirit and love of baseball eventually won out as he switched paths and played semi-pro baseball for a while. He loved every minute of it.
Darrell worked construction as a laborer until he went to work for the City of Grandview Public Works for 15 years. He then was offered a job at Columbia Crest Winery in the maintenance department where he retired in 2020.
Summers Darrell played slow pitch baseball in Sunnyside, which he loved, developing many very close friendships that have lasted throughout his lifetime. He and his family loved the games and travel with the team, they were all part of his “family”.
During the fall Darrell shot pool in the lover Valley Pool league. He really excelled at pool just as he did at every sport. Again his team was “family”.
In 1980 he married Debbie Thurston and became a loving family man. That summer they started spending time at Twin Lakes, WA, their favorite place to be. It became their “great escape” for the rest of his life.
Everyone loved Darrell, he was always friendly, happy and wore a big smile.
Darrell leaves behind his greatly loved family: wife Debbie, stepson Todd Newhouse and wife Amber (Prins), of Sunnyside, WA, stepson Tyler Satterthwaite and wife Kim (Segrin),of Portland OR. and 9 grandchildren; Brielle, Levi, Myles, Gage and Chase Newhouse of Sunnyside, WA and Drew, Lincoln, Olivia and Jackson Satterthwaite of Portland, OR. Darrell loved and was so proud of all his grandkids!
Darrell was preceded in passing by both of his parents, his sister Sharon Rogers, and brothers Willie and Dale Stenberg.
Darrell will be greatly missed and always remembered with love and a smile.
