Elfriede Alter

 Elfriede Ella (Oma) Alter, age 95, passed away on September 20, 2021 at her home in Prosser, Washington. She was born in Horsterbush, Germany on January 14, 1926 to loving parents Eduard and Eliesabet (Peter) Assmann. Elfriede received her education in Germany. Elfriede was a seamstress in Germany until marrying her loving husband, Arno. The two of them were married on August 28, 1948 in Kafertal, Germany. Arno moved to Prosser in 1957 working and saving money for Elfriede, and their son, Klaus to join him in 1958. She was hired at Prosser Packers in 1960, later becoming Twin-City Foods. She continued to work at Twin-City Food until her retirement in 1988.

Elfriede was an exceptional seamstress and loved needlework, baking, playing cards, camping and fishing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, her grandchildren were her absolute favorites. She was a dedicated member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser, Washington.

Elfriede is survived by her sons Klaus Alter of Kennewick, WA., Bob (Sue) Alter of Prosser WA., grandchildren Autumn (Jason) Pease of Kennewick, WA., Robbie Alter of Prosser, WA., and Kirsten (TJ) Finn of Prosser, WA. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Anita Roach of Marysville, WA, and many nieces and nephews. Elfriede is preceded in death by her husband, Arno Alter, granddaughter, Brandi Alter, her parents, Edward and Eliesabet, along with 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser, Washington. Following the visitation, funeral services will start at 11:00 am with burial to follow at East Prosser Cemetery in Prosser, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser, Washington.
