Evelyn Louise (Bremer) McGraw

The family sadly announces the passing of Evelyn McGraw.  Evelyn was a wonderful person, a loving, caring, and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and an inspiration to many.  Evelyn was born in Paris, Iowa, where her family farmed. In the 1940’s her family moved to California, and later to Sunnyside, Washington where she attended First Baptist Church, graduated high school in 1951, and married Dale McGraw in 1952, her husband of 74 years.  Together their family lived in Sunnyside WA., Modesto, CA., San Mateo, CA., Reardan, WA., Colfax, WA., and Spokane, WA., before settling in Moscow, Idaho in 1961, and buying a small farm in the Blaine area SE of Moscow.  Evelyn worked for Papineau Insurance, and at the University of Idaho for many years as a secretary in the Forestry Department, the Purchasing Department, and the Communications Department where she retired from in 1996.  Evelyn was a member of the Moose, Elks, Beta Sigma Phi, and IPEA (Idaho Public Employees Association) organizations.  She served in offices in Beta Sigma Phi, and as president of the local chapter of IPEA.

In 1997, after Evelyn and Dale’s retirements from the University of Idaho, they sold the farm at Blaine, and moved to Maple Valley, WA.  In 2004, they moved to Kennewick, WA., where they have lived until the present.

Evelyn fought a good fight and lived life to its’ fullest following her stoke in 2009.  Later she required a pacemaker.  We were all fortunate the stroke did not affect her speech or vision, but it did affect her mobility, where she required use of a walker or wheel chair.  One of her greatest pleasures became her independence in taking her two dogs (both named Daisy) for walks around the streets on her power scooter.  She was often seen on busy street sidewalks with Daisy in front of, behind, beside, or on the scooter.  She would make stops at the nearby Dutch Brother’s drive thru where she was treated like royalty by the young people who worked there, and occasionally she made trips to Winco Grocery, and Walgreens.  Evelyn had a broken ankle in 2023, and during that time began showing symptoms of dementia.  In April 2025 it became necessary to have Evelyn placed in Hawthorne Court, a care facility in Kennewick.  There, she came to have numerous friends.  She was loved by residents, caregivers, and staff.  Dale visited her daily at Hawthorne Court.

In 2026, Evelyn had multiple incidents of pneumonia, with two incidents in May.  In her weakened state she was unable to recover.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 27, 2026, at 8:45 AM.  Evelyn was 93 years old.

Evelyn’s passing was preceded by her father Peter C. Bremer, her mother Velma S. (Davis) Bremer, and her brother Glenn R. Bremer.  Evelyn is survived by her ever loving family; husband Dale McGraw, son Vernon McGraw(wife Sheri), granddaughter Melissa (McGraw) Wright, great granddaughter Kaylee (McGraw-Wright) Mendoza (husband Zach), 3 great-great grandchildren Malachi, Zenna, Jonah, great granddaughter Sierra Wright, granddaughter Stephanie (McGraw) Chapin, great granddaughter Savannah Chapin, great-great grandson Akari Tensley, great grandson Zach Chapin, grandsons Chris Hester, Gary Hester, daughter Susan (McGraw) Mueller (husband Larry), grandson Jason Boggs (wife Kristen), great grandson Gavin Boggs (wife Gabby), great-great grandson Harrison, great granddaughters Paige (Morgan) Smith, McKenzie Morgan, grandson William Boggs (wife Moriah), 2 great grandchildren Jasmine Boggs, Kaleb Boggs, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tedd and Carole McGraw, nephew Darren McGraw (wife Christy), niece Linda (McGraw) Hren (husband Mike), niece Tammy (Bremer) Call, niece Sherry (Bremer) Kidd, niece Shelly (Bremer) Hutchinson (husband Del), and their families.
