Flora (Faye) Embree passed away on January 21, 2020 at her home at the age of 88. Faye was born the sixth of ten children on August 12, 1931 at the family home in Alstown, Washington to Louis and Rose Berk. In 1937 she moved with her family to Sunnyside. She married Frank Embree on December 24, 1949 and settled in Sunnyside where she remained for the rest of her life.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband Frank Embree, her parents, and six siblings: Delbert, Mervin, Harland, Wendall, Mercedes Dormaier, and Anita Doncaster. Faye is survived by her daughters Dena Holroyd of Vancouver WA and Pam Burton of Sunnyside, three grandchildren (Jenna, Danielle, and Ryan), and one great granddaughter (Cecilia). Surviving her are sisters Iva Grabner of Roosevelt WA, Kathleen O’Malley of Bremerton WA, brother Sam Berk of Roosevelt WA, and many nieces and nephews.
Faye was known for her cooking, baking, and gardening right up to her 88th year. She was an avid reader who kept up on world events and could discuss them with anyone. She was beloved by her nieces and nephews who loved her story telling and often called her “Auntie B.” She worked in the office of her husband’s Sunnyside business, Frank’s Body Repair. As an active volunteer in the community, she served on the board of the Sunnyside Museum, volunteered in the public schools, gleaned apples for the food bank, was a Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer. Faye and her husband Frank were active members of the Apple Valley Model A Car Club. Friends remember the good times traveling through numerous western states in their RVs while they camped and fished. Faye captivated all of her extended family and friends with ”stories” and her sense of humor. Regardless of the situation, happy or sad, she could inject a spot of humor that was appropriate for the moment. Trustworthy, honest, classy, and spunky are words that many used to describe her. Faye will be missed by those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Union Gospel Mission in Yakima, the Gideons, or Heartlink Hospice & Palliative Care in Sunnyside.
