Gabriel Lepez, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Gabriel was born on July 9, 1939, in El Venado, Michoacán, Mexico, to Vicente Lepez and Angela Mungia. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Ana Maria Zepeda, in Michoacán, Mexico. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and hard work.
After immigrating to the United States, Gabriel settled in Sunnyside, Washington, where he worked as a farm laborer. Despite the demands of his work, he always found time for the things he loved. A passionate musician, Gabriel enjoyed playing the violin with his mariachi group and listening to traditional arpa music. He had a deep appreciation for gardening and was known for his green thumb. He also enjoyed staying informed by watching the news daily.
Gabriel was a devoted member and faithful follower of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish. His strong faith guided his life and brought him comfort and strength.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ana Maria Lepez Zepeda, and his nine children: Maria del Socorro Soberanes (Sunnyside, WA), Azael Pedroza (Grandview, WA), MariaElena Lepez (Pasco, WA), Diocelina Gomez (Sunnyside, WA), Gabriel Lepez Jr. (Escondido, CA), David Lepez (Chula Vista, CA), Maria Ortencia Guizar (Kent, WA), Anna Alicia Alvarez (Kent, WA), and Juan Lepez (Seattle, WA). Gabriel was a proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente Lepez and Angela Mungia, and two siblings, Vicente and Clemencia Lepez.
Gabriel will be remembered for his unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and enduring spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of music, joy, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grandview, WA.
