Gilbert Hill Samaniego, 63, left this Earth to be with the Lord on February 7, 2025, surrounded by the people he loved most. Gilbert was born on August 29, 1961, in Uvalde, Texas, to Johnnie B. and Francisco Samaniego.
In 1967, the Samaniego family moved to Sunnyside, WA, where Gilbert’s life took a beautiful turn—he moved across the street from the love of his life, Leonor Rubalcava. Their bond grew, and in 1990, they married and built a loving family together. They were blessed with two daughters and shared countless cherished moments traveling, fishing, camping, watching movies, dancing, and roller skating.
Gilbert was a true jack of all trades, able to fix anything that came his way. He was best known for his skills as a mechanic and his passion for driving long-haul semis. Among his many hobbies, his favorite was spending time at the Yakima Speedway, where he enjoyed being in the pits with his buddies from LP Body Shop.
Gilbert is survived by his former wife, Leonor Rubalcava; his daughters and their spouses Desiree and Ryan Burkhardt, Danielle Samaniego and Jose Sanchez ; his grandchildren, Delilah and Alicia Sanchez; and his siblings, Benacio Garcia, Francisco Garcia, Linda Samaniego, Josie Samaniego, Sylvia Cerda, Johnnie Samaniego, Mary Samaniego and Jeremiah Samaniego. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie B. and Francisco Samaniego and siblings Rudy Samaniego and Armando Samaniego.
To those who loved Gilbert, he would want you to remember the laughter, the adventures, and the unwavering love he had for his family and friends. He believed in living life to the fullest, never backing down from a challenge, and always lending a helping hand. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and every moment spent with loved ones. While he may no longer be physically present, his spirit will forever guide and watch over those he cherished.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 14th from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 12:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Burial will follow at Zillah Cemetery, Zillah, Washington. Those wishing to sign Gilbert's online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith
