Gloria Maria Cantu, our beloved mother was called home May 16, 2022, Gloria was born February 4, 1949 in Pharr, TX the daughter of Maria (Saldana) and Manuel Cantu. She lived most of her life in Pharr, TX before moving to Sunnyside, WA in 1989 with her three daughters. Gloria spent her early years working as a midwife at the Reedmock Maternity Clinic in San Juan, Texas. She cherished time spent with her family playing loteria and barbequing. Gloria loved to dance and listen to Tejano music. As Gloria spent time at the casino, she probably was humming the words to Kenny Rogers song. You've got to know when to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away Know when to run You never count your money When you're sittin' at the table There'll be time enough for countin' When the dealin's done. Most of all she will be remember for her strength and courage to deal with life experiences.
She is survived by her sister Martha Cantu, three daughters Elaine Cantu, Leticia Cantu and Cynthia Cantu. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, great grandchild on the way and several nieces and nephews. Gloria is also survived by beloved friends Imelda Maries and Hilda Gomez and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Maria Cantu.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:00 am at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA.
