Greg R. Smith, 67, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in the loving arms of his wife.
He was born on February 5, 1959, in Yakima, Washington, the fourth of six children and the first-born son.
Greg was a strong-willed, protective, and adventure-seeking kid who grew up in Sunnyside, Washington, forming many lifelong friendships along the way. He welcomed two daughters during his first marriage and later married the love of his life, Dina, on May 27, 1995. Just days before his passing, he told his niece June (Workman) that the best things he ever did in his life were welcoming his girls into the world and marrying Dina.
Greg spent a lifetime in the roofing industry and was the co-owner of Arrowhead Roofing alongside Dina. With more years in roofing than many people spend in an entire career, he built not only roofs but lasting relationships and a reputation for hard work, dedication, and integrity.
Outside of work, Greg embraced life wholeheartedly. He loved fishing, spending time on or near the water, taking beach vacations, and cheering on his favorite football, basketball, and baseball teams. Following his cancer diagnosis, he became even more determined to live life to the fullest, making memories, seeking adventure, and appreciating every moment. During the last year of his life, he especially enjoyed cheering on his niece Jacklynn and nephew Corbin (Workman) as they played club soccer, getting a kick out of their competitive spirit and determination on the field. His biggest regret was not being able to spend more time with his daughters and grandchildren throughout the years but especially towards the end.
Greg was truly someone who marched to the beat of his own drum. He loved his family with his whole heart and would do anything to help someone in need. He was the calm in life's storms, the adventure we never knew we needed, and the stubborn reminder to slow down and enjoy the simple things. His strength, humor, and unwavering presence touched countless lives.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Don Smith; his mother, Beverly Ice; his stepfather, Wayne Ice; mother-in law Brandy McDarment and his brothers-in-law, Bob Bartley and Gary Sowers.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dina Smith; his daughters, Ami Ell (Austin) and Brittny Smith; his four grandchildren, Emma Ell, True Smith (Ameera), Myah Ell, and Lucy Fisher; his siblings, Donna (Chris) Powers, Lynn (Leon) Pope, Joan Sowers, Sandy (Bud) Cueto, and Kent (Sue) Smith; step mother Jo Smith, his brothers-in-law, Danny (Lisa) Chaparro, Ricardo (Rhonda) Reyes, and Neal Ambriz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and some of the best friends anyone could ask for, all of whom will cherish his memory forever.
Greg's absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. He will be missed more than words can express and loved beyond today, tomorrow, and forever.
A viewing will be held on June 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family has chosen not to hold a formal service at this time. Because Greg loved the outdoors and spending time with those he cared about most, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor and remember him in a way that reflects the life he lived. Those wishing to sign Greg’s online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com Smith Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
