Harriet May Cromar Berg, 87, longtime Sunnyside resident went to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 24th in Spokane, WA. Born in Sunnyside, WA on May 23, 1938 to Oren L Cromar and Laurel V (McLain) Cromar. Harriet was raised in Sunnyside and graduated with the Sunnyside class of 1956. While in high school, she worked at the Golden Pheasant restaurant and the Liberty Theater and of course not to forget the fun days of asparagus cutting for Aaron and Dorothy Lane. After high school graduation she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, WA. She was employed at Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Sunnyside and the Old National Bank also in Sunnyside. On December 14, 1957 she became the bride of John P Berg; they began their life in Sunnyside and then moved to Kennewick in 1959. In September of 1958 they became the proud parents of a son, Brian Paul. Harriet worked for Seattle First National Bank in Richland and in 1960 they were blessed with a daughter, JoAnn. In 1963 they moved to Anchorage Alaska, where John became employed with the City of Anchorage. In March of 1964 they were again blessed with a son, Thomas Alan, eight days prior to the March 27, 1964 Alaska earthquake. Harriet worked for Caribou Wards and Alaska State Bank in Anchorage. They moved back to Sunnyside in 1970, where they purchased Royal Cleaners and after several years they sold the business and John began his career at Hanford and Harriet returned to the banking world at Seattle First. After several years there, she worked for Home Lumber and Schoessler Farms as a bookkeeper. She ended her working years as a secretary for South Yakima Conservation District. She retired in 2010. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband John after 42 years of marriage, her parents, her precious son Brian, and her twenty-year companion Ramon Martinez. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn & Dan Zyph of Spokane Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Tom & Charlene Berg of Spokane; four grandsons – Tyler, Todd & Andrew Zyph, and Jason Berg; four granddaughters – Brandy Kovis, Lindsey Collins, Ashley Sulgrove, and Kayla Berg; sixteen great-grandchildren – Jaxon & Lily Kovis, Owen, Abigale & Elliott Collins, Harper, Delaney, Leni, Kash, Tatum & Kampbell Zyph, Esme, Johnny, & Daniella Berg, and Decker & Zoey Sulgrove; as well as numerous cousins and long-time friends.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 9:00a.m. with funeral service to begin at 11:00am at the Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside Washington, burial to follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, Washington.
