James Leonard Yeager Obituary
James Leonard Yeager, 85, passed away on April 3, 2026, in Prosser, Washington.
James was born on September 6, 1940, in Chico, California, to Churchill Ferris Yeager and Wilda Evelyn Gollnick. He spent much of his life in California and later lived in Utah, where he worked for Hercules as a computer programmer.
Earlier in life, James was married to Eileen June Yeager, and together they raised six children in Utah. Later, James and Marion Rackham Yeager renewed a connection that had begun years before. They first knew each other while attending BYU in 1960. They dated for a time, then lost touch. Many years later, they were reunited, and on April 3, 1992, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they shared 34 years of marriage. His family finds special meaning in the fact that he passed away on the same date as their temple marriage anniversary.
James was a man of faith and service. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave many years of service as a Scout Master. In recognition of his outstanding dedication to Scouting, he received the Silver Beaver Award. He was known for being generous with his time and finances, quietly helping others and giving where he saw a need.
In the later chapters of his life, James became a constant source of love, guidance, and strength to Marion’s children - Matthew Gonzalez, Mona, Ana Maria, Carolina, and Jose. To them, he was far more than a stepfather; he was truly a father and grandfather figure, and his influence will live on in their lives and in the lives of their children.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Marion Rackham Yeager; his children, Laura, Wilford, Sarah, Jason, Mary, Matthew Gonzalez, Mona, Ana Maria, Carolina, and Jose; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many adoring nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Farris Yeager, his brother, Jack, and other loved ones who welcomed him home.
James will be remembered for his faith, his generous heart, his quiet service, and the love and support he gave to those who were blessed to know him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, served, and strengthened
