Janice Dee Dorsey

Janice Dee Dorsey passed away on August 16, 2026.

Janice was born in Enterprise, Oregon, to Andrew Aichele and Delores “Dee” Aichele. She was one of five children, growing up alongside her siblings David, Andrea, Donald, and Karla. She spent much of her childhood in different places throughout Eastern Oregon. She especially treasured the years her family lived in Coombs Canyon, where she and her siblings spent their days exploring the surrounding countryside. Her family eventually settled in Hermiston, Oregon, where Janice graduated from Hermiston High School in 1969.

Janice became a mother to three handsome boys during her first marriage: Chris, Tony, and Casey Voorhees. In 1982, she married Jeff Dorsey, and together they welcomed two more wonderful children, Jessica and Adam. Through the joys, challenges, changes, and inevitable ups and downs of life, Jeff was Janice’s constant. Their marriage spanned more than forty years and lasted for the rest of her life.

Janice will be remembered for her beautiful green eyes, her big smile, and a perfectionist streak that was unmistakable. She took pride in doing things well, and nowhere was that more evident than in her home, which she was known for keeping exceptionally clean, and in her yard, which she tended with the same care and attention.

She loved flowers and gardening and created a beautiful yard that reflected the time, effort, and pride she put into it. She also had a lifelong love of horses. Janice enjoyed being active and had a competitive side, too, playing sports including softball and bowling. Later in life, Janice enjoyed spending time with her beloved aunts, Myra and Jean, who provided welcome company and comfort through some of her more difficult times.

Janice could have a sharp edge and was never afraid to let you know what she thought, especially if you were her grandchildren’s Little League umpire. But behind that fire was a big heart and a fierce love for her family.

She loved to entertain for holidays and summer barbecues. In the kitchen, Janice had a memorable repertoire. Her family knew and loved her takes on classics like potato salad, pies, banana bread, buckeyes, and bon bons. But her true specialties were her clam dip, orange Jell-O, and 'stirrum', which were all fiercely loved family traditions that many outsiders never quite seemed to appreciate.

More than a beautiful home, a carefully tended yard, or her hobbies, Janice loved her family. She held her parents in the highest regard and spoke of them often and fondly. She also dearly loved her siblings, and while they did not see one another as often as she would have liked, they remained an important part of her heart and her life. Her five children were among the great loves of her life, and that love only grew with the arrival of her 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

And for more than four decades, her love for Jeff was truly unrivaled. Through thick and thin, they were there for each other every step of the way. Jeff was by her side until the very end.

Janice is survived by her husband, Jeff Dorsey; her children, Chris (Kalah) Voorhees, Tony (Jennifer) Voorhees, Casey (Ebany) Dorsey, Jessica (Erik) Van Doren, and Adam Dorsey; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Andrea (Dave) Follett, Donald Aichele, and Karla (Myrle) Giersch; and her sister-in-law, Becky Aichele. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Delores “Dee” Aichele, and her brother, David Aichele.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Grandview.
