John R Proffitt passed away May 1, 2022 at the age of 69, a long time resident of Sunnyside. He has longed to go back home to the coast. John was born November 29, 1952 in Raymond, Washington to Betty B. Cox. Raised by his parents J. Claude and Anita Proffitt in South Bend, Washington with his siblings Bill and Ruth. John met Maria in South Bend where their loved blossomed. They were married at the home of her Uncle Henry and Wendy Heberlein of Outlook on July 7, 1973. Henry’s calves decided to attend. John worked for a trailer manufacturing company for 27 years, he started as a welder and then a leadman for the finish crew, he also was a volunteer firefighter for 17 years which he loved. John’s world revolved around his wife, Maria, and his daughters. Zoe his dune buggy adventurer, she would not want to stop until the carburetor would freeze. Peggy his helper to fix and build things, his grandchildren which he would drop everything if they needed him. John enjoyed camping, motorcycle riding, hunting boating, knee boarding and pulling water skiers, and pulling water tubers, fishing. The first fish he caught his father-in-law cut it up for bait. He liked everyone he met. John was proceeded in death by his brother Robert Cox and mother Betty B. Cox. His parents J. Claude and Anita M Proffitt. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria, daughters Zoe [Wayne] Officer, Peggy [Fred Flansburg] Proffitt, granddaughters Angela and Alyssa Officer, Savannah Flansburg and grandson Josiah Flansburg, brothers Bill Proffitt and Marshall [Teresa] Cox, sisters Ruth [Mike] Kolodzie and Barbara [Wes] Page.
